Week9 EOC

What are the biggest challenges of budgeting this classroom project? How do you think it compares to a similar project if you were really doing this for a client? What would happen if your budget was really off? Present a couple scenarios. You may discuss this as your group, but you need to develop about 300 of your own words to post to your blog EOC.

The biggest challange is not having an actual budget like I would for a real clientand not knowing the cost price on many items.  If this was for a real client, I would have a price list because I would have an account with the manufacturer, so I would know the cost versus the list and then I could charge the client properly.  I'm pretty sure our budget will be off because we (my group) don't know the cost of frieght, install, and labor. The easiest part of the budget to figure out is the tax.

Week 8 EOC: Evening News

News Script #1
                The interior design firm, 4 Design, has made over a 600 S.F. studio at the Veer Towers into a cool modern styled bachelor pad.  The makeover is an attempt to draw buyers to the Veer Towers and is being offered as a package in addition to the studio by itself.  The package includes the furniture, lighting, window treatments, and appliances.  Prices for the studio start at $400,000 and the package will cost an additional $90,000.  Definitely well worth the price.

News Script #2
                This weekend, head on over to the Veer Towers and checkout the all new bachelor pad designed by the firm 4 Design.  The bachelor pad is being offered as a package that can be added to the studio and will cost an additional $90,000.  So what do you get for the money?  You get all the furniture and finishes, a roll-down projection screen T.V., appliances, and the studio is completely automated by a Control 4 system.

Week 7 EOC

Week 7 EOC
                How long would it take for a buyer to move in to the Vdara after signing a contract to start the project?  I would say 4-5 months from beginning to end.  The reasoning behind this is that materials have lead times anywhere from a quick ship to 8-12 weeks.  The labor on the condo can take some time because all the different trades that need to get in and out.  Each trade will rely on the trade before them to have completed their work on time and often times they finish late.  The client will have walk throughs, and certain things might need touch up or to be completely redone.  If the project was pushed and all the materials were quick ship, the condo could be completed in 3 months, but the client might not be completely happy with the quality of the workmanship and the materials.  Once completed, the client can expect to move into complete perfection.

Midterm

            I am excited about our group’s project.  We have a clear objective, interdependent tasks, resources, and is a unique endeavor geared towards a specific customer (Gido & Clements pg. 6).  We have been working on and implementing a baseline plan (pg.17) and have defined “the specific activieties that need to be performed…”(pg.83).  I am working on the reflected ceiling plan, lighting plan and elevations along with bathroom fixture selections.  Our project, though not complete, has a modern look tailored to our customer that is sure to satisfy.  So far we have developed our preliminary designs and we will begin to work on our “detailed designs, including preparation of specifications, drawings, flowcharts, and a list of materials.” (pg. 91)
            I’m not saying the other groups project is bad, but I do believe that they need to clean it up a bit and rethink some of their choices such as the stripper pole and mirrored ceilings.  Also how is turning a column into a fireplace going to work?  I think that their decorative pebbles should be limited to just the shower instead of the whole bathroom floor.  They have definitely displayed the life of their project from their action agenda to preliminary designs and identifying what they need to do next.
